List of Countries on the Travel Corridor in October

As the summer is ending, countries with increasing new coronavirus cases could face a second lockdown soon. For those of you who are wondering where it’s safe to travel in October to have a late summer holiday, keep on reading.

The UK has been updating the list of countries on its travel corridor every week. These countries are determined according to the number of daily tests, new cases and the percentage of positive tests.

You can sign up to get an email alert whenever this page is updated.

You don’t have to self-isolate if you are coming back from these countries, but you do have to check the specific COVID guidance that your destination country has determined.

Everyone travelling to the UK has to provide a ‘passenger locator form’ within the 48 hours you are due to arrive in the UK. If you visit a transit stop in a country that’s not on the travel corridor list, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days upon your return to the UK.

Recommended Countries for a Late Summer Holiday

Italy

Although it was once heavily hit by the pandemic, Italy reopened after months of lockdown and has been on the list of travel corridor countries for a long time. The tourist-favourite country is already open to visitors. However, one thing to consider is check the rules of the particular region of Italy you are planning to visit. Currently, only those travelling to Sardinia have to provide a negative COVID-19 test.

Turkey

Despite its huge population, Turkey has been amongst the countries that have handled the COVID crisis fairly well. Turkish Ministry of Health advised the public on social distancing measures and made wearing masks everywhere mandatory, and brought restrictions to people younger than 20. The amount of new cases varies by region, so we advise that you check the specific destination you are planning to go to. Still, Turkey’s tourism industry is well-prepared with their Healthy Tourism Certificates. The southern coast of Turkey still enjoys sunny and warm weather throughout October.

Greece (except the islands of Crete, Lesvos, Mykonos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos and Zakynthos)

Greece is still seeing fewer cases than other countries on a daily basis, however, the cases have been increasing in the last couple of weeks. In Greece, face masks are only mandatory on public transport, in taxis and other enclosed spaces. Those planning to travel into Greece must complete a passenger locator form at least 24 hours before they arrive. Corfu and Preveza in Greece have been selected as the two safest destinations for travel in Greece by well-known travel magazine European Best Destinations.

Cyprus

From the beginning of the pandemic, Cyprus has been amongst the most careful countries in letting travellers visit the sunshine island. So far, Cyprus has had less than 2000 total cases and the country reported back in April that most cases had come from people travelling into the country from abroad. Cyprus splits countries into 3 categories; A, B, and C to determine which rules tourists from these categories will need to follow.
