Winter is quite cold up North, and in New York, it might be a bad surprise when it snows. The best times to visit the USA are in spring, early summer and early autumn, when the weather is pleasant. However, summer can get very humid in the east coast and north, so it is best to enjoy the sun in West coast. It is advised to avoid the summer heat when visiting Grand Canyon in Arizona. 

For a summer holiday the best time to visit the USA is during the Indian summer in California, which is from mid-September to mid-October.
